On Saturday, September 7, 2019, family members attended the Memorial Mass & Butterfly Release at Sacred Heart Cemetery and Mausoleum in Vineland, NJ. Each year families of those who were buried at the cemetery the year prior are mailed an invitation inviting them to the Memorial Mass. The morning began with Father Robert Sinatra, Pastor of Saint Padre Pio, celebrating Mass.
After Mass everyone processed out to the courtyard where they were handed a special origami envelope that held a live butterfly. After a poem was read in memory of those buried at Sacred Heart, all paused a moment and then were instructed to open their envelope to release their butterfly. All were invited to partake of the light refreshments, and many family members shared memories of their loved one.
South Jersey Catholic Cemeteries, the Diocese of Camden, has been holding the Memorial Mass and Butterfly Release for many years. Marianne Linka, Director of Cemeteries expressed, “Our mission is to bury and care for the deceased, and to bring comfort to their families. We hope that our Memorial Mass brings hope and solace to our families while helping them remember their loved one.”
Additionally, Mass is celebrated four times during each year for those buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery & Mausoleum. All are invited to attend these Masses. Visit our events page for our listing including Mass times.
