On Saturday, September 9, 2017, over 90 family members attended the Memorial Mass & Butterfly Release at Sacred Heart Cemetery and Mausoleum in Vineland, NJ. Every year South Jersey Catholic Cemeteries invites the families of all who were buried during the prior year. The morning began as Msgr. John Burton, Pastor of Christ the Good Shepherd, celebrated Mass.
After Mass all gathered in the front of the chapel mausoleum and were given a butterfly. One of the cemetery staff members read a lovely poem in remembrance of all who were laid to rest in 2016 at Sacred Heart. Family members were thankful and felt the Mass and butterfly release brought them comfort as they remembered their loved ones. Many gathered and share memories of their loved ones while partaking of the light refreshments being served.
South Jersey Catholic Cemeteries, the Diocese of Camden, began offering the Memorial Mass and Butterfly Release about four years ago. Marianne Linka, Director of Cemeteries expressed, “We take great pride and care in serving our families, and we hope that our Memorial Mass brings comfort to our families while helping them remember their loved one.”
