On Saturday, June 9, 2018, more than 275 family members attended the Memorial Mass & Butterfly Release at New St. Mary Cemetery and Mausoleum in Bellmawr, NJ. Each year families of those who were buried at the cemetery the year prior are invited to the Memorial Mass. The morning began with Father Piotr Szamocki, Pastor of St. Joachim Parish, celebrating Mass. Father Piotr was assisted by Deacon Gerard DeMuro, also from St. Joachim Parish.
Following Mass all gathered together and were given a butterfly. A poem was read in remembrance of all who died in 2017 and were buried at New St. Mary Cemetery & Mausoleum. Many shared memories of their loved ones while partaking of the light refreshments.South Jersey Catholic Cemeteries, the Diocese of Camden, has been holding the Memorial Mass and Butterfly Release for many years. Marianne Linka, Director of Cemeteries expressed, “Our mission is to bury and care for the deceased, and to bring comfort to their families. We hope that our Memorial Mass brings hope and solace to our families while helping them remember their loved one.”
